There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ~ Gal 3:28 HCSB
I was born during the last days of racial segregation. I remember as a small boy a major department store in downtown Richmond, Virginia with water fountains that where marked white and colored and public bathrooms marked men, women and colored. African American men and women had to share the same bathroom space. I thank God for all those men and women of all races who struggled for years to make this nation live up to its values of equality and justice for all. We are not perfect by any means BUT the solution is not in politics but in Christ alone.
The sad history is that so many conservative bible believing and preaching churches were infected with racism and segregation when it came to African Americans. Dr. King is quoted as saying that Sunday morning is the most segregated day of the week. Churches tend to be monochromatic ( one color). I praise God for those churches where different skin colors mix easily. But that is the exception and not the rule.
It MUST not remain so. Saints of all colors, ethnic groups, languages, cultures and economic levels must learn to work together in harmony for God’s Kingdom. As our numbers decrease in the general population and our culture rebels against God and his word, we need each other more now than ever. We need to learn from each other, to share our experiences and our prayers to encourage each other in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The presence of the Holy Spirit in each child of God should cause us to love one another even as Jesus loves us regardless of any superficial differences.
IN CHRIST THERE IS NO EAST OR WEST
In Christ there is no East or West,
In Him no South or North;
But one great fellowship of love
Throughout the whole wide earth.
In Him shall true hearts everywhere
Their high communion find;
His service is the golden cord,
Close binding humankind.
Join hands, then, members of the faith,
Whatever your race may be!
Who serves my Father as His child
Is surely kin to me.
In Christ now meet both East and West,
In Him meet North and South;
All Christly souls are one in Him
May the Lord bless each of us to love all our brothers and sisters in Christ, ALL of them.
In Jesus name: Amen
