“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” ~ Eph. 6:12 KJV
As Christians we must keep in mind that we are part of a struggle between God, his angles, his chosen people and Satan/the Devil, his fallen angles and sinful humanity. This has been going on at least since the time of the Garden of Eden.
There is no letup in this struggle. Satan knows he was defeated by the death and resurrection of the son of God Jesus Christ. He knows his time is limited before his final day. He is seeking to thwart Gods eternal plan and to drag as many people into an eternal separation from God as he can before his final judgment and sentencing into the Lake of fire for all eternity. He will use whatever it takes to do so.
We have a primary mandate from God to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world and then make disciples of those who, by God’s mercy and grace, have responded to the drawing of God’s spirit and the truth of his word in faith and repentance and called on the name of the Lord. Some respond in fear of hellfire others to the love of God, only he knows what each one needs to be drawn to himself.
We must let nothing distract us from this calling. We know as God uses people to accomplish his purposes, so does Satan. We must keep in mind that Jesus went to the cross of Calvary for those folks under the power of sin and Satan. He died to set them free from the Kingdom of darkness and bring them into the kingdom of his love and light. We must NEVER lose sight of that truth. They may hate us but we must NEVER hate them. Regardless of how they treat us, we are the ambassadors for the Kingdom of God in the earth and must respond in love and truth and not react in our flesh if we are offended.
The weapons that we have are spiritual not of our flesh: “For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds” 2 Cor 10:4 AMP
Here is a classic list of battle weapons from the Apostle Paul:
Ephesians 6:10-18 (AMP)
10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
11 Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.
13 Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].
14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,
15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the [a]firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness [b]produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.
16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of [c]saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit [d]wields, which is the Word of God.
18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).
One final reminder: James 4:7
So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.
We are on the winning team, in the final outcome the Lord has the victory.
Victory In Jesus
I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood’s atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.
In Jesus name, Amen.
